Happy Father’s Day to all the great Dads out there.
Well, today we made the promised return to PJ’s Lager House for the weekend brunch and we were not disappointed. This place is definitely on my top 10 list.
Brunch starts at 10:30 am and we arrived at a few minutes after 11:00. By 11:30 almost every table was filled. So a tip: arrive early if you do not want to wait. Even every stool at the bar was filled too. And they even filled the band area with tables. It is a popular brunch.
I had been waiting to get to this brunch and was not disappointed in any way. First, let me say, the Bloody Mary’s are awesome (with Grey Goose vodka)! I had the Vegan Biscuits and gravy which I knew I had to have as soon as I saw it one the menu when we were last there. As a vegetarian you get little opportunity to have biscuits and gravy. When I was a kid, the only meal my dad ever cooked that I remember was Sunday morning Biscuits and Sausage gravy. I learned how to make it and it became my kids favorite and my daughter makes it to this day for her husband. So, biscuits and gravy have a special place in my heart.

Bobcat Bonnie’s is a FRESH & LOCAL GASTROPUB in Corktown with another location in Wyandotte. Love this place. They have a great menu with tons of vegetarian and even a vegan or two choices. I love the decor, casual and slightly industrial, open and inviting.
We arrived, as is our usual preference, long before the night time crowd appeared at about 5:00 pm. They have an awesome beer menu but this time we chose one of our favorites, the Stroh’s Bohemian style pilsner on draft.

OH MY GOD. Where has PJ’s been for the last 10 years? Well, right here in Detroit on Michigan Ave. THIS is my new favorite spot. From the outside you look at it and cringe slightly and wonder if you have the wrong place. They could not possibly serve vegetarian food, let alone vegan food at this spot. But they do. And it is awesome.
I had the Tofu Bahn Mi and it was yummy as heck. Marinated and deep fried tofu triangles served over lettuce, house made cucumber, carrot& jalapeno slaw and topped with homemade peanut sauce & chopped red peppers. Served on an open faced toasted bolillo bun with veganaise. The tofu was chewy and savory and the slaw was tangy and slightly spicy. I had the sweet potato fries and they were very well done, as in just bout perfect.
John had the Veggarito. Vegan! Poblano Spanish rice, shredded lettuce, pinto & black beans, pico de gallo, spices, avocado & vegan queso. Spicy or mild and huge, I tell ya, YUGE. It was a lot of burrito and John pronounced it very good.
The beer was awesome and draft and cold and, yeah, what more can I say about beer.
We met PJ and were regaled with stories from over the years. He bought the place in 2007 I believe he said. There are two rooms. One where there are tables and the bar and a room where the bands play and is plastered with music posters. We spent more than a few minutes looking at them all. There is also a patio outside.
PJ regaled us with stories from the past and you will have to ask him his Jimmy Hoffa story. I won’t steal his thunder here. And downstairs there is a record store and upstairs one of the coolest AirBNB places I have seen in a while. YES. You can rent the upstairs and just wander down for music, brews and vegetarian food. HOW COOL IS THAT!!!
I cannot say enough cool things about PJ’s from the bar vibe to the history to the food. You must visit PJ’s Lager House.
The food was so exciting, I forgot to take pictures before we started noshing. Ooooopppps. (not sorry either).

Happy Birthday to me!! Breakfast this morning with John. We have been here to the Jagged Fork a few times and have always enjoyed it. So today, on my Birthday I will tell you all about the Jagged Fork.
It is one of my top 20 breakfast spots. One of the great things is it is sooo close yo home. Right down the street. SO it makes for a nice quick trip.
We started with their French Press coffee which is really good. A real kick-starter for your day. They bring it with a crystalized sugar swizzle stick which is fun. The I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and John had the Greek Skillet.

This was our first visit to Cafe Muse for a nice weekday morning breakfast. As usual I had perused the menu before we left and it looked like we would have no trouble finding a meatless breakfast. We arrived at 10:15 am and several tables were filled but were seated immediately.

Seva has long been one of our favorite restaurants. We started going to Seva when it was located in Ann Arbor on Liberty street. That is still my favorite location for the place. I do not like the atmosphere of the new Seva’s in a strip mall on the other side of Ann Arbor.
But, that’s okay. I do like the Detroit space and the menu is pure Seva.

So today is two-fer day since I have been negligent in posting. Last night John was off so we made our first dinner trip in a while to Atwater in the Park. We had been about a year ago and this was not a haven for vegetarians at all, but I had heard the menu changed so we gave it a try. I was very pleasantly surprised.

For those of you who have not been, Atwater is located in an old church on Lakepointe and Kercheval. I love the vibe inside and since we went early on a Wednesday evening, it was pretty quiet and not crowded.
