If you are a fan of Avalon International Breads on Willis, then you are in for an even bigger treat at the cafe downtown. We found it by accident on Memorial Day downtown as we wandered around looking for a spot to eat and LO AND BEHOLD, AVALON. I could not believe it. I had no idea they had a cafe downtown. And they also have a place in Ann Arbor on Liberty. Where the heck have I been???
They carry some of the items from the bakery to buy, but the best thing was a breakfast and lunch/dinner menu that was way cool. They also have a cooler section where you can buy salads and sandwiches and drinks to go.
From sandwiches to pizza and salads and stuff in between the menu looked awesome and we will return to sample more.
I had the smoked trout Rueben. Just plain yummy. It was really good. Corn meal on the trout, pumpernickel bread 1000 island dressing and sauerkraut with chips on the side.
John opted for the grain bowl with a ton of greens, avocado, hummus dressing and an egg. I tried it. It was outstanding.
They also have beer and wine and cider for later in the day and I cannot wait to return.
